This is a perfectly normal reaction and no reason to panic. In fact, such pain reports are comparatively common with in-office dental bleaching.
The pain that may occur after bleaching can have several causes. On the one hand, unfavorable oral hygiene can break down the tooth enamel and thus make the tooth generally more susceptible to pain. Second, some people may experience pain when exposed to the bleach we use. We use hydrogen peroxide in our bleaching gel, a bleaching agent that is also used in considerably higher concentrations by dentists. This acts on the tooth enamel and makes the teeth temporarily more susceptible to pain.
Because we at OnlySmile are legally allowed to use hydrogen peroxide in a maximum concentration of 0,1%, the risk of pain after an application is extremely low. If you still experience pain, we have the following recommendations for you.
