Bad breath is a very unpleasant ailment for those affected, especially since many people are not made aware of their unpleasant breath. Today we explain how different causes contribute to the development of bad breath. Then we also want to highlight a few simple remedies that eliminate bad breath.
The most common cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene. These include, for example, bacterial deposits, food residues in the area of the tooth background or defective teeth as well as dental work that needs to be renewed.
Inflamed tonsils, a sinus infection, a cold, purulent inflammation of the oral cavity or diseases of the digestive system can also be a cause. In addition, garlic, alcohol and nicotine consumption are a cause of bad breath.
If the causes of bad breath are due to a lack of oral hygiene, then bad breath is usually caused by the putrid decay of leftover food. Here, bacterial metabolites such as amino acids and proteins (mostly sulphur-containing compounds) are decisive. The amount of saliva present also plays an important role, so it is not surprising if you notice an unpleasant smell and taste when you wake up in the morning. Basically, the less saliva there is, the less the oral cavity is ultimately flushed. The result is unpleasant bad breath.
But not only a lack of oral hygiene, but also a rough tongue surface is an ideal basis for bacterial deposits and leftovers. Other factors such as snoring, mouth breathing or fasting can also reduce the flow of saliva and thus increase bad breath. Cleaning the tongue with a tongue scraper or a special toothbrush can often help to reduce this coating on the tongue and thus prevent bad breath.
If the cause of treatment is poor oral hygiene, there are a number of inexpensive and reliable methods of reducing bad breath. If the teeth are intact, regular and thorough brushing is essential. The use of dental floss and mouthwash can also help to reduce bacterial plaque.
If there is another cause, a general practitioner should be consulted. For example, if she finds inflamed tonsils, this disease can be treated. The bad breath should then go away on its own.
