Pain-sensitive teeth can have a number of causes, which we have already explained in detail here. Today we want to talk about what you or your treating dentist can do against pain-sensitive teeth.
The following methods can help you eliminate acute pain or prevent it effectively.
It is best to have your dentist show you a gentle brushing technique. At OnlySmile, we recommend using a soft toothbrush. These usually impress with comparatively less stress on the gums and still help to clean the teeth.
In the supermarket or in pharmacies there are special oral care products that have been specially developed for pain-sensitive teeth. These are often marked with the epithet "sensitive". These products then contain special active ingredients that close the open canals on the neck of the tooth. Examples include strontium, calcium, arginine and amine fluoride. This can then help against pain-sensitive teeth.
Since teeth that are sensitive to pain are not just a thing of the past, dentistry has now developed a number of efficient procedures to treat teeth that are sensitive to pain. Below are some examples from a whole range of possible procedures:
In the case of exposed tooth necks in particular, the surface can be sealed with thin plastic or with certain medications. The active ingredients contained in the medication and also the plastic cause shear-soluble deposits that close the dentinal tubules. A seal is particularly efficient because a single application prevents the occurrence of further pain stimuli.
Again, plastic is used here. This time, however, in the form of a filling that closes into the hollowed-out tooth neck area. This effectively keeps unpleasant stimuli away from the sensitive parts of a tooth.
If the teeth begin to loosen, the gums bleed more or if a strong loss is observed over time, you should see your dentist urgently. At OnlySmile, we advise against using our products if you have sensitive teeth.
