Do you know those places on your teeth that appear a little more transparent and light or dark seems to come through the tooth? Colloquially, these places are called transparencies. In technical language, however, a different term is used. Actually one should speak of translucency. Translucency thus describes the shimmering of light through an actually solid surface.
This happens in places where the enamel, which is the outermost protective layer of your tooth, and the dentin, the layer underneath the enamel, have worn away. This can be the case, for example, through frequent consumption of fast food, industrial sugar or carbonated drinks. The tooth substance, i.e. what the tooth is made of, then wears down and becomes thinner overall. This is often the case with the incisors. Since the pharynx is dark when you look into the mouth of another person, this darkness shimmers through the tooth and the tooth appears darker.
Even though OnlySmile uses innovative formulas for its efficient products, we too cannot lighten what cannot be lightened. With classic tooth bleaching, only the discolored enamel is lightened. However, where there is no enamel to whiten, even the best whitening formula in the world will not help.
If you have transparencies, cosmetic tooth whitening is still an option for you. The non-transparent areas appear whiter the more you whiten your teeth. This will make your transparent tooth areas less noticeable.
The only way to get rid of your transparent areas is to visit your professional dentist. They can then apply artificial enamel to the affected areas to help you.
